Telrad Or Finder Scope?
I have an Orion XT8 and I find that the red dot dot sight it has extremely hard to use, in your opinion is a telrad better or an old fashioned finder scope?
A telrad or red dot finder doesn't have any magnification. It's good for sighting on an object you can already see, such as a planet.
A finder scope will give you a bit of magnification, so you can see a few stars and objects that you can't see naked-eye.
I like both. If you want to star-hop by pointing your scope at a bright star and then using charts to find your way to your object from there, a telrad is great. If you want to get to your target faster you might be better off with a finder scope.
