Golf grip question! I need help deciding what to use?
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using new decade multicompound grips. I was thinking of trying those, but I have VERY LARGE hands, and was wondering how much the grip can be built up with tape? I normally use a soft grip that stretches easily,in order to build the grip up to my specs. I have heard that it is harder with the half corded section on the multicompound. Has anyone ever built the grip up, and if so, how many pieces of tape did you use? Also, is the Avon D2X a good cheaper model compared to the Golf Pride Multicompound? Should I just stick with the GP grip? Thanks
The multi-compounds are great grips. Keep them clean and they'll last you a long time.
As for your build-up question: I would start with the oversized ones and build up from there. I know I have gotten a regular sized GP cord over 6 wraps of double-sided tape. Which is about the same as about 8-9 wraps of regular masking tape.
They are really hard to get started and make sure you use a bunch of solvent so you can slide them on easier. Also, bend and work the corded end of the grips before you put them on. You will hear some cracking, that is just the cording breaking up slightly. It won't change performance of the grip and will let them slide on easier.
I haven't tried the Avon D2X's, so I can't help you there. I would stick with the GP. They are some of the top sellers for a reason.
