Why are the best fighters in the world not bigger?
Why don't guys like Nathan Jones, who are 6'10", 340, train and win against guys like Cro Cop and Fedor? What offsets 100-pound weight advantages, supposing such big guys could gain all necessary skills? Is it speed, and if so, only speed, or something else too?
Can I get some intelligent answers, please? They should call this "Yahoo Answers (to questions other than the one you asked).
it is hard for a big guy to get a fight or build a fight record to even get into mma, people are reluctant to fight a 340 lb big guy, who even with minimal fighting skills could wipe the floor with a "smaller" guy who has a 100 lb weight advantage simply because of his size.
It is a risk. MMA is at the end of the day a business and mismatches like that are not going to happen. This is one of the situations where "sport" does vary from "street" significantly and legitimately you can even quote it from jack demsey's book that delves somewhat into the mechanics of setting up fights.
A manager isn't going to risk a loss on his fighters record by putting his fighter up against the champ in his first pro fight. Audience wouldn't want to see it, and it wouldn't make money. Organizations wouldn't allow the "rocky" syndrome.
In reality, the very fact that a lesser skilled 350 lb range fighter can even compete with a highly skilled, "best of the best" average (or average heavy weight) fighter should tell you how important a weight difference really is.
Many of these guys might not do the conditioning as they rely on thier size and stregth, and many of these "naturally big guys" also make "natural offensive tackles" where they can play for the New York Giants, and choke but still make a couple of million a year as opposed to barely hitting 6 digits in MMA.
