It’s a hobby and a sport. It’s a sport whether used hobby or a career. It could be a “hobby” but it is a “sport” no matter which way you look at it. I have no idea why you feel so strongly against golf as a sport. Maybe b/c most chess people don’t have a lick of athleticism? I tattoo and paint, its a hobby, but it’s a job, same difference. no matter what you’re saying, it is still a “sport” So why keep aggravating yourself and everyone else?

Sport: a physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
Just because it isn’t physically exerting doesn’t mean it isn’t a sport. The fact is golf is defined as a sport and a lot of sports analysts claim it to be the hardest sport to succeed in, not necessarily the hardest sport to participate in or learn. As you said Tennis would be a close second. As for Chess that is definitely not a sport considering you sit the whole time.
